HAVE YOU EVER:
- Wanted to talk about diversity and inclusion with a colleague or team member, but felt ill-equipped, or even afraid, to do so?
- Deliberately avoided raising a particular topic around a certain colleague?
- Avoided a conversation with a certain colleague for fear of saying the wrong thing?
- Participated in a conversation on diversity and inclusion, which was not delivered or received as intended?
- Tried to talk about a particular topic and it went badly?
Discomfort with any discussion around certain topics can prevent us from exploring opportunities to learn about others and understand the issues. Research has found that honest, open and inclusive communication creates a more positive workplace, drives employee engagement, and increases productivity. On the flip side, poor communication, taboo topics in the workplace, or mishandling of conversations can lead to employees walking out the door. This workshop will encourage you to have a healthy conversation on ‘tricky topics’ in the workplace without hurting people and without the fear of offending.
Join Dr. Prince Ehoro and Kae Roberts of Graybridge Malkam for a frank and pragmatic discussion to build your awareness of how to handle sensitive topics more effectively. Drawing on their complementary expertise in diversity and inclusion, building a respectful workplace, and interpersonal communication, Prince and Kae will provide insights and tips to help you become more comfortable talking about a range of sometimes difficult topics―in both the way you communicate your message―and the methods you use.
